AASL Standard & Assessment practice

AASL standard: 2.1.6: Use the writing process, media and visual literacy, and technology skills to create products that express new understandings.

Students will be able to create originial work.

Students will be able to express their learning in their own words.

Students will understand the principles of each communicative medium.

Students will be able to explain their creative and design choices.

Performance task:

** This performance task includes other standards from other curricular areas. This would be a summative assessment, done at the end of a unit.

An alien from outer space has just transferred to your school. He has no knowledge of the American government system. Using one of the mediums from the list, create an explanation to help your new alien friend understand his new home.


Choose from: brochure, poster, prezi, flip movie, website, podcast, or storyboard.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed using a rubric. There will be five criteria on this rubric: Content, Creativity, Execution, Citation, and Spelling & Grammar. The content does not apply to the AASL standard, but the other criteria does.

Who am I as a leader?

About 8 years ago, I read a book that kinda changed my life.  Well it changed how I look at myself as a leader and that is what has made all the difference.  The book is Quiet:  The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking  by Susan Cain. If you can't tell by this book selection, I'm an introvert.  It is very much a part of my identity.  If you talk to my friends and family, they will immediately identify that being an introvert is one of my top defining qualities.  I will sit and listen to people who converse with ease and charm with wonder.  Easy conversation and charm (with unknown companions) just takes so much energy from me that I only do it when I've psyched myself up for it or find it necessary for my goals.  Before reading Susan Cain's book, I had the mindset that leaders were extroverts.  They were loquacious and easy to get along with and the life of the party.  As an introvert, I would be more suitabl...
